The Internet has revolutionized the way we get information, communicate, and build relationships and as a result it presents unparalleled opportunities to communicate the Gospel for both individuals and organizations.

Most people have heard of "Web 2.0" and know that it is relevant to their lives in some way, but saying just how can be difficult. According to Wikipedia, ""Web 2.0" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0 is a trend in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to facilitate creativity, information sharing, and, most notably, collaboration among users."

How to Create
a Successful Volunteer Ministry

ACS Ideas to Impact

"Volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."

Though this quote is anonymous, it is probably safe to say that the person who wrote it was involved in church ministry at the time! Anyone who has led a church ministry will tell you that volunteers are essential.  Yet the reality is that church leaders struggle to get the majority of their members involved as volunteers and find it difficult to retain volunteers once they are involved.

The Pied Piper of Penryn
Inside the Box - Donald Stratton

Intel's Santa Rosa refresh (Penryn) is in full swing right now, and the tech-savvy are slavering at the thought of those tiny 45 nm processing cores and what they can do to improve system performance. The smaller processing core's biggest claim to fame is that it uses less power and it runs cooler than the older 65 nm processors. The big question for most customers, however, is whether Penryn actually lives up to these promises.

Why CCMag Is So Different
Editorial - Steve Hewitt

Recently I attended the MinistryTech.com conference. I enjoyed meeting many new people, including visiting with several of our readers. However, I also met several who had never seen a copy of CCMag. As I shared what CCMag is about, and what we seek to accomplish, someone commented that we were certainly different from other magazines. Of course, I always knew that this was true, but it reminded me that maybe I needed to explain our purpose, goals, and why we are so different.

Keeping track of phone numbers and emails is almost impossible for a church.  Keeping track of all of the events birthdays, programs and groups in the church is exhausting.  Having to constantly pass this information on to everyone can be frustrating, and keeping it up to date with your computer, the church computer, other ministry leaders and your cell phone seems like the impossible dream.  Until now!

A New Breed: The Church IT Director
By Nick Nicholaou

Just as technology is always changing, the way churches are managing their data networks is also changing.  While many church networks are still being ultimately overseen by the business administrator or CFO, more and more churches are hiring IT Directors from industry, and it's impacting churches nationwide!

Hot Tips 34

In this installment, we will learn how do some fine-tuning of display properties, how to create "sticky" menus that don't automatically cascade, how to create icons with no names, and how to increase Office 2000's Excel undo history. I'll also mention a new feature of this column that will start next month.

Vista Multimedia Update
By Terry Wilhite

When you last heard from me the verdict was this: If you don't have to update to Windows Vista for multimedia, don't - at least not right now. Microsoft's latest operating system is still being nailed as unreliable, sluggish and overall not an improvement over Windows XP, which, by the way, has just released Service Pack 3, the last major update Microsoft plans to release for that operating system.

Vignette: Susan, a sales representative, is running late to a morning appointment with a client. Murphy's Law does not discriminate. As she's stuck in gridlock traffic, she uses her cell phone to make a panicky call to inform her client that she'll be late. Unfortunately, she can't connect to a live human being, forcing her to leave a voice mail. As she's talking into her client's voice mail box, she realizes that she has brought the spare set of keys - - the one without her flash drive attached to it. Her mind quickly scans her visual memory of where she last saw her flash drive... inserted into the USB port of and dangling from her family's CPU.

Books Just Want to Be Free!

There have been a lot of reviews about individual ebook readers (Sony Reader, iRex iLiad, Amazon Kindle, etc.) but I'm not sure they've been written by people who actually read on them. (Maybe they have, I must confess that I quickly scan through the reviews.)

Does Digital Bible Study Save You Time?
By Kevin Purcell

I recently read a blog post from Phil Gons on the Logos Blog, a blog by the producers of Logos Bible Software.  You can read it here: http://blog.logos.com/archives/2008/04/does_logos_really_save_you_time.html.  Phil addressed the question, “Does digital Bible study save you time?”  In other words, does using a computer and Bible study software save you time when you compare it to the traditional method of sitting with a stack of books and a pad of paper.  Gons asked, “Do pastors who used to spend 15 hours a week doing sermon prep with paper books now spend only 7 or 8 hours with Logos? Do they ‘save’ time in the sense of spending less than they used to?”  The implication is that while they may use less time to do the same amount of work, now they are using the same amount of time to prepare a sermon, but they get more study done.

I have some blessings for which I am very thankful and want to share with you. First, I am so thankful that God gives us the opportunities to travel and see other places and people that exist in His creation. I had a chance to go visit my great grandmother yesterday and it was just a good time to visit with her as well as being able to see some beautiful countryside on our trip there and back. What a wonderful time we had. Second, I am also very thankful for all the Christian resources that we have available to us these days. One area in particular that comes to my mind is the large amount of videos related to Christianity that sit on the shelves of stores and are being sold on websites all across our nation.
